According to the written statement made by the Ministry of Interior; On December 6 in the evening, it was learned that a group of irregular immigrants were found in the semi-submerged life raft, which was left to be dragged into Turkish territorial waters by the Greek elements, off Tekağaç Cape in Aydın’s Didim district. Thereupon, search and rescue work was initiated in coordination with the fishing boat close to the region. Turkish Coast Guard teams reached the region and rescued 17 irregular migrants, including women and children, who were on the raft about to sink. Immigrants were taken to Didim Port by Coast Guard boat. It was learned that the immigrants were stranded on Bulamaç Island for 2 days, were caught by the Greek elements on the island and put on the Greek Coast Guard ship in two groups, separate men and women. On December 8, a total of 11 irregular migrants were rescued in two life raft that were dragged into Turkish territorial waters by the Greek elements off Bodrum Yalıkavak, again in the evening. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu shared images on his Twitter account regarding the inhumane treatment of Greek Coast Guard elements towards irregular migrants. The images included the moment of immigrants’ rescue and the traces of beatings. Minister Soylu also labeled Greece’s Minister of Migration Notis Mitarakis and said, “Dear Minister Notis Mitarakis, your coast guard elements are getting higher every day in torture and inhuman treatment”.
